Lecture by Dr. Maarten Dolk, RME Expert from the Netherlands

Mahasiswa P Mat 2018, Dosen, dan dr. Maarten Dolk

Dr. M.L.A.M. Maarten Dolk from Faculty of Science, Utrecht University, Netherlands, gave a lecture to all students of the UNY Master of Mathematics Education Study Program for two days, Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30, 2019. The lecture was conducted in the form of team teaching together with the lecturer of Mathematics Model, Ariyadi Wijaya, Ph.D. At the event, Dr. Maarten outlined the rules of Realistics Mathematics Education accompanied by a very inspiring example. He proposed a “Meter” to measure the amount of PAM water used by customers. The meter consisted of tens of units, tens of units, tens of thousands, and each value was provided with a circle and a needle. The context was used as the “beginning of problem solving” related to decimal values.

In addition, Dr. Maarten also presented a context related to SPLDV in describing the level of the mathematical process in accordance with the Iceberg rule. The stages of the mathematization process include: (1) Problem, (2) Conceptual Mathematization, (3) Interaction and Reflection, (4) Schematization, (5) Formalization, and (6) Concept, and finally (7) Applying Concepts.
