Workshop on Curriculum Evaluation and Development: Master of Mathematics Education Study Program Establishes Steps Towards a Relevant and Adaptive Curriculum
Primary tabs

To improve the curriculum and adjust to the dynamics of today's educational needs, the Master of Mathematics Education Study Program FMIPA Yogyakarta State University held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Workshop on Curriculum Evaluation and Development on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Ballroom of the Masters and Doctoral Building FMIPA UNY 4th Floor. The event, from 07.30 to 11.30 WIB, was led directly by the Head of the Study Program, Prof. Dr. Agus Maman Abadi, M.Si. This activity involves various stakeholders, ranging from alumni graduate users to lecturers, as part of a collaborative process in developing a curriculum based on graduate learning outcomes (CPL).
Present as invitees were Dwi Astuti, M.Pd. (alumni, Ahmad Dahlan University), Deden Hidayat, M.Pd. (alumni, teacher of SMAN 3 Yogyakarta), Dr. Puguh Wahyu Prasetyo, S.Si., M.Sc. (Head of Mathematics Education UAD), and Drs. Suhirno, M.B.A. (Principal of SMAN 3 Yogyakarta). A heated discussion occurred when the participants evaluated whether the designed SLOs were truly derivatives of the established graduate profiles. One crucial suggestion that emerged was the addition of practicum courses in statistics to strengthen students' applicative skills in data analysis. In addition, the relevance of the Level A Mathematics elective course, which was no longer appropriate in the current context because it was initially designed to accommodate RSBI classes, has now been abolished. As an alternative, it is suggested to replace the course with Psychology of Learning Advanced Mathematics or Contemporary Issues in Mathematics Education, which are considered more in line with current needs and developments in mathematics education.
Through this activity, the Master of Mathematics Education Study Program shows its commitment to continue to reflect and innovate in the curriculum so that it remains in line with scientific developments, field needs, and the profile of graduates who are superior, adaptive, and visionary.
