Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is now increasingly penetrating various aspects of education, including supporting students in compiling quality scientific work. In an era where technological advances have permeated all lines, AI comes as an innovation that can help students overcome research challenges and produce more accurate and structured scientific work. Students are often faced with a complex academic load. From literature research, data collection, to in-depth mathematical analysis, the whole process requires precision and a lot of time. The use of AI in the research process offers concrete assistance in simplifying each stage. With AI, students can automatically access the latest literature references, compile statistical data faster, and perform grammar and syntax checks to refine the quality of their scientific writing.
The Master of Mathematics Education Study Program held an event on the Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Writing for Master of Mathematics Education Students of FMIPA UNY. The event was opened by Koorprodi, Prof. Dr. Agus Maman Abadi, M.Si., with the event moderator, Hilda Widia Rita Hamid, S.Pd., and the resource person, Hadi Nur Rahman, M.Pd. The material presented began with brainstorming or looking for ideas using AI with reliable references to produce good literature research. Furthermore, AI is also introduced, which can speed up the process of searching for scientific literature with a fast process and following the desired theme, as well as ensuring that the literature taken and adapted is under the keywords and even the research questions posed. After all of this was introduced, the material concluded by introducing how to effectively find out the content of the articles that have been collected, by selecting them using AI with different functions. With the various processes and sequences previously carried out, it is hoped that students can get references to scientific papers that are by the desired theme while maintaining the novelty that is relevant and needed in the world of education, especially in research in mathematics.
As a resource person, Hadi Nur Rahman also pointed out that although AI brings many benefits, ethical challenges also arise. Several lecturers and education experts reminded that AI should be positioned as a tool, not a substitute for students' critical and analytical thinking skills. The wise use of AI is expected to be a solution without losing the scientific essence that every student should have. It is important for students to still have independent research skills and a deep understanding of every analysis conducted because this is the core value of the educational process, especially at the master's level in mathematics education.
Through the proper utilization of AI, it is expected that Master of Mathematics Education students can produce scientific work that is not only technically superior, but also relevant and useful for the development of educational science. Thus, AI can be a strategic partner for students in realizing higher research quality, opening up opportunities for collaboration, and encouraging innovation in approaches to mathematics learning. In the future, I hope AI can continue to grow in line with strong academic integrity, helping students to contribute quality scientific work that positively impacts the world of education. (HnR)
